What’s the most crazy moment you have experienced during a meeting so far?
I was once in a fake meeting, set up by Steven and Niels. “Ehm, a meeting about our communication strategy. Please make sure you are prepared” they said… Suddenly, in the middle of the meeting, I received a gift for my 1 year anniversary @ Merchandise Essentials. It was a T-shirt of my favorite pop singer, Gene Thomas. For all my life, I’m a huge fan! 5 minutes later, he walked in and gave me three kisses. I almost fainted!
What’s your favorite core value and why?
‘More than merch’ absolutely this one. Our team is like a superhero team. Every day, we do more than just the expected. I have my heart at the company, because I see that every member of our team deeply cares about our company. It’s a cliché, but so true: we are one family.
What’s the best advice you can give to potential new co workers?
A no nonsense approach works. Say what you have to say (but think before you talk). Don’t be a pussy, talk to your colleagues in order to reach your goals. To illustrate, when I have a bad feeling because a project is not going to turn out great, I will talk to my team personally. It would be more easy to shut up and to cry at night, but that won’t help at all.
What do you think of the lunch breaks at Merchandise Essentials?
For me, it’s not so much about eating during lunch break. I want to beat everybody during a ping pong match! Especially Simon, I always win from him! Hmm okay, maybe not always, but most of the time 😉
Pretend you’re the CEO of Merchandise Essentials, what three concerns about the firm are keeping you up at night?
First of all, this question would keep me up at night: ‘Can I still pay every member of the team every month?’. Also I would think about how I can motivate every team member to talk extremely excited about how awesome my company is. And last but not least, I would hope that there’s a good vibe in our team and that nobody has serious struggles with their job or the company.
