Employee in the spotlight: Dorothée
At Merchandise Essentials, we are a close-knit community that values teamwork.
We decided to highlight one of our colleagues every month because we appreciate all of them one by one. This month, we introduce you to Dorothée. She is our Marketing Project Manager in Belgium.
Dorothée, 31 years old and the Marketing Project Manager at our Belgium HQ. Together with the marketing team she is working on a lot of different internal and external marketing campaigns.
In order to get to know her a little bit better, we asked her several questions about what her job entails.
How did you end up at merchandise essentials?
At my previous work (creative agency) I already got to know Merchandise Essentials. I also followed the company and Niels on LinkedIn, this way I always kept a connection with the company and I could follow up what they were doing.
When I started looking for a new job opportunity ME popped in mind quite fast, especially because Karel-Jan used to be my colleague a few years ago and I knew that he was very positive about ME.
For me it was important to have a job at a company that has a product or service that I can relate to and that there is a positive internal culture. It soon became clear that ME met these requirements.
What is the highlight of your career at merchandise essentials?
I started working at ME in March, so I am not working here that long. But there were already some moments that made my heart beat faster a little bit ;). One of them was coordinating the photoshoot for our very first SS Essentials collection. We made a webshop for this collection and handed out vouchers to some clients. A lot of products got sold out in just a few days. I’m looking forward to seeing the results of some other marketing campaigns we will set up in the next couple of months. There is never a dull day at ME!
How would you describe the atmosphere within your team?
As I already mentioned it is very important for me to be part of a team where there is a positive atmosphere. A positive atmosphere contributes to the group feeling and also to better results. If you have a bad day because of stress or other things, the team atmosphere can make up for it.
In the marketing team we work with 3 permanent persons and occasionally with trainees. We always try to challenge each other to come up with creative ideas.
What is your favorite piece of merchandise and why?
If I had to choose I would pick a sweater. I’m always checking if a piece could both fit a woman and a man. We have multiple clothing items that have a fit specifically for both genders, but I get it that a lot of companies want an easy solution. When you pick a unisex item there is no hassle at all.
A sweater is a good piece for all seasons, you can wear it in winter but also on a more chilly summer evening. If you style it properly it looks really fashionable.
What do you think Merchandise Essentials will look like in 10 years?
Merchandise Essentials is now a company of +/- 40 employees. I am sure that the company will keep on growing, with new offices in different cities and countries. We will become more well known, including abroad.
On the one hand, the focus will be more on fashion, and starting to use it strategically in order to provide solutions to certain problems that companies have, such as client retention, employee onboarding, dealer management, …
On the other hand, sustainability will play an even bigger role and we will do our utmost as a company to be a pioneer in the field of sustainable fashion.
In any case, I can’t wait to see what the future holds for ME!
